The Re-Animator – the Musical

Most horror fans have a soft, (or should I say moldy) spot for Stuart Gordon’s 1985 Re-Animator, a film which is deserving of the designation “classic”. Now there is the chance at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood not only to see this gruesome Lovecraftian tale on stage, but to leave humming the tunes. The Re-Animator – the Musical covers the same ground as the original film, as medical student Dan Cain’s (Chris L. McKenna) involvement with the bizarre experiments of fellow student Herbert West (Graham Skipper) leads to disaster for him, Dean Halsey of Miskatonic University (Harry S. Murphy), his lovely daughter Megan (Rachel Avery), assorted others and one cat. With Stuart Gordon himself at the helm as director the plot stays close to the film, but the emphasis this time is on raucous good fun with the first few rows being offered plastic covering for the splattering in store. With music by Peter Adams and special effects by John Buechler the evening presents toe-splashing entertainment. But Hurry!
