<i><b>Life as a Writer = Suffering</b></i>

I just read that and started laughing so hard. It's not glamorous, but I like the feeling that comes with seeing your name on something you put together, and getting better at it. While things can be a little pressing, I couldn't imagine not 'suffering', hah. I probably averaged 4 hours of sleep a night this week, if that, and it was pretty much worth nearly every waking moment.

You mentioned you were in NY in 2005 - what brought you there? Do you think you'd go back for a visit?

Just wanted to add that I understand completely how you feel about writing. I am exactly the same way with composing. Mostly I attribute it to anxiety in confidence of my abilities, so I usually end up "thinking" about the process of music writing for a week or so before I actually put pencil to paper. Then I just force myself to sit down and tell myself it's time to begin. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not but at least I have a general idea of what I want the music to sound like before sitting down to write, which at least tends to make the beginning processes flow more smoothly.

And then, I'm totally with you on the finished product, when the composition is done and it's been performed a feeling of great accomplishment washes over me, it's one of my greatest feelings in the world, maybe it's just that I was able to get past the anxiety and actually push to a finished product or maybe it's that I've added something albeit a small something to the global consciousness. One of my favorite pastimes is pulling out past projects and just conducting it in my head and listening.

The only 'talent' I recognized at my first red-carpet event was Domenico something-or-other from "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" (who went on to have a spin-off dating show called "That's Amore!"). At one point of the evening he pulled down his pants to reveal a red, white, and greed clad ass with "That's Amore!" in blue print. By that time, my camera had died. But hell, there was free sushi.

I like the smaller events, to be honest, although it's all good for experience. Last night, next to the works of Allen Ginsburg, I had the opportunity of exchanging tongue-twisters over too much red wine with a poet (Milo Martin) who's book release/event I was covering. My badge said it was work but the laughter did not.

And about that foot condition - you're not the only one, either! I wonder why it's so, but I swear, it comes from nowhere at times. . .
