Rafael Gamboa – Biography

Rafael graduated in 2009 from Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where he studied film history, film theory, and film production for narrative fiction, documentary, and experimental cinema. In September of that year, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the industry and has been living there ever since. He currently freelances on small film projects in a variety of roles while seeking that elusive big break into the industry.

A cinephile with a deep love for art house cinema and science fiction, his favorite films are The New World and Alien, and his favorite filmmakers are Stanley Kubrick and Terrence Malick. His biggest guilty pleasures are the Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible franchises, which he avidly watches regardless of how good or bad the movies are. He also has a passion for writing –– and not just about movies. In his spare time, he works on creative writing projects ranging from poetry to screenwriting. He’s also a recovering gamer, fond of 3rd person shooters and console platformers.

He is happy to have the opportunity to write about media on a regular basis, and looks forward to engaging with his new audience.
