Poetry
Summary: Written for a poetry class in college. I was trying to emulate a particular poet whose name escapes me. In any event, her poems bend words in order to stay true to the auditory “fullness” of the piece rather than proper spelling. I am pleased with my imitation.
Summary: A silly metered poem I wrote for a college poetry appreciation class. The professor, a poet junkie, liked to stand when she read her serious, evocative poems. So when I was asked to read this ridiculous poem, I chose to stand as well. The professor did not appreciate my fun poking.
Imitations of Pound’s In a Station at the Metro
Summary: Imitations for a college class, probably the best way to learn.
Summary: A free-verse (is that the right term?) poem for a college class. I don’t really care for poetry, so whenever I could work it in, I just converted my “personal memoir” thoughts into a poem. Here I discuss the “road less traveled” or, in my case, never traveled.
Summary: A pantoum is a kind of structured poem that repeats and innovates at the same time. An interesting structure that can sound sing-songy at times. I incorporated my experience as a restaurant server into this one.
