He would have been the odds-on favorite if Ledger hadn't turned in the performance of the year. I know you have issue with his take on the Joker (no backstory, no rules, blah blah blah), but I was riveted by his performance. I even went into the theater hearing all the Oscar buzz which made me want to hate his performance--but I couldn't. Any other year, though, and Downey would have gotten it.
