Oprah Winfrey Settles Defamation Lawsuit

Plaintiff and defendant meet and settle the situation amicably. Unfortunately, details are scarce.

A few days ago, I posted a news item about a defamation lawsuit against Oprah Winfrey. A former head mistress of one of Winfrey’s schools was suing Winfrey for some disparaging comments Winfrey said that the head mistress claims prevented her from working for a full year. The two women met to discuss the situation.

A trial had been set to start next week in federal court in Philadelphia. Winfrey and several schoolgirls had been expected to testify.

A joint statement released late Tuesday by lawyers for both sides said Winfrey and Mzamane met to resolve their differences.

“The two parties met woman to woman without their lawyers and are happy that they could resolve this dispute peacefully to their mutual satisfaction,” the statement said.

No details have been released regarding the outcome of the conversation, but my best guess is that a large sum of money changed hands.

    Just like the big corportations. It’s cheaper to buy them off than litigate. Doesn’t matter who’s right.
