Is Mel Gibson the ‘Cold Warrior’? By René S. Garcia, Jr. | January 28, 2010

Has the Hollywood industry forgiven Mel Gibson for his drunken tirade?

Interesting movie news here. It seems as though Mel Gibson may be through with his industry penance for lashing out at Jewish people in a drunken stupor back in 2006. Gibson is currently being considered to lead Cold Warrior, which would be his first industry film in quite a while.

From Variety:

Mel Gibson is in talks to star in Universal Pictures’ spy thriller “Cold Warrior.”

Project reunites Gibson with “Lethal Weapon” scribe Shane Black, who is helming.

Based on a script by Chuck Mondry, pic centers on a spy from the Cold War era who comes out of retirement to team with a younger agent from the new school to confront a domestic terrorism threat orchestrated by Russia.

If Gibson gets the part then good for him. What interests me most is that Shane Black is directing. I haven’t read as many screenplays as I’d like to, but I do enjoy what I’ve read from Black — even if his little asides are frowned upon by screenwriting gurus. He isn’t writing this time around, but I also enjoyed Black’s Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. I’m sure Cold Warrior will be enjoyable regardless of who they get to lead.
