thats why you should start local. hit up some local stores and shops to see if they want to establish a web presence. most likely they wont want major sites, so itd be a good place to build from. only drawback is that youd have to do cold-calls and exercise the salesmanship skills.

@dks:

I hear you. I'm hoping the Web development thing takes off, but I'm worried that my lack of certs will hold me back.

As for the RSS snippets: I just wanted to ensure that readers were forced to go to my blog and see all of the other stuff to look at and...click on...you know what I mean.

id say use the extra time to start fleshing out a portfolio of website designs and develop your client base. itd be a cool at-home gig and would stack with any other full-time job.

on an unrelated note: you only show snippets on the RSS feed now. WHY!?

You're right dude, I'm in the same boat as you, there's no such thing as job security when you work retail. Where I work they just laid off 20% of the sales staff... and now they're saying that no new business cards will be given to us until "we see what happens beginning of the year." Great! This could be interpreted in many different ways but one way is that there may be more lay offs come January or worse yet could the company be in trouble? Money hasn't been good but I think it's kinda cool to HAVE a job.
